My New Year's Resolution by Macy - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
It is a common tradition throughout the world to make a resolution for the New Year. Often times these resolutions include healthier eating, exercising more frequently, or losing weight. More often than not these resolutions are only kept for a few weeks or a few months. This year I want to make sure my resolution is kept for the whole year, and continued throughout my life. My New Year’s resolution for 2016 is to stay organized and not lose focus throughout the semester to help me achieve my academic goals and avoid stressful situations.
Organization will help keep my life running smoothly. The elimination of guessing or going with the flow can help remove stress from certain situations. This is why I feel keeping organized in school is very important. A few organization techniques that I intend on trying will be making a list of upcoming assignments or tests in classes, writing plans into my planner at the beginning of each month, and setting deadlines for long term projects or papers. These are just a few of the many things that I can do to keep myself organized in college and to help reduce stress. I believe that organization is one of the key elements to success in college. There are many other elements that can help achieve academic success.
Another element is not losing focus on my goals. One of my long term goals in college is to achieve at least a 3.5 GPA every semester. To achieve this, focus is very important. College is full of distractions, and it takes a lot of motivation and ambition to be able to avoid these distractions that can take away from important school work. This upcoming semester I am going to try to avoid mindless browsing on the internet and Facebook scrolling. I am also going to try to limit myself to an hour of television every night. I believe that these techniques will help keep my focus and minimize my stress in college, and help me achieve my goals.
Keeping a New Year’s resolution is never easy. It takes a lot of determination to reach goals. I believe that my resolution for 2016 will most definitely help me become, and stay, a better student for my future college career. Education is very important to me, and I have always done my best in school. I am a very hard worker, which is why I think I can keep my resolutions for the whole year and in the future to help me have a successful academic career and productive future.
