#openmind by Luke - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
Education is the vehicle I will use to navigate life. I will study the lessons of those who have come before me and learn how to interact with those around me. I will be able to have meaningful conversations based on my studies. Meaningful conversations will give me the insight to other customs and cultures of those in society.
I look forward to the opportunity to learn, I'm hungry to learn and I'm willing to learn. My family felt my education was so important that it was imperative to find the right institution of higher education, so we started visiting colleges when I was nine years old. At the time I wasn’t quite sure why we visited so many schools but as time progressed it because abundantly clear. There were many factors when choosing a university. Geography, urban or rural, for instance. Public or private. Diversity of student body, size of the student body or area of study. This was the biggest decision of my life up until this point.
When I walked on to the campus of The University of North Georgia at Dahlonega, I knew I was home. It had the major I wanted, a diverse student body and the rural setting I desired. Decision made. I now have the free will to learn and grow as an individual while interacting with so many gifted professors and fellow students. Although I chose a school in the mountains of North Georgia, my global opportunities are available to me because of my education.
