Don't procrastinate! Yes, I'm Talking To You! by Lucas - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
What is your ultimate strategy for success on a school project?
I'm a teenager and what do teenagers like to do? Procrastinate until it is too late to get the school project done. Have you ever seen the sign, "Your problem is not my emergency." I suggest planning ahead so your assignment doesn't feel like an emergency or disaster waiting to happen. The key to success takes planning, time and preparation. As teenagers we are busy with school, video games, friends, athletics and after school jobs! Did you know that you there are apps for your phone that can help keep you organized? I love technology and I carry my phone where ever I go, so why not put a calendar on your phone. Its really simple to download an app and keep yourself organized.
Let's begin with deciding on the project topic. If you are giving options on what topic you would like to do, pick something you know a little about already. Pick a topic you find interesting and want to learn more about. If you are interested in the topic this will make it a lot more fun for you. If I can pick a topic from my project on how fungus replicates or LeBron James basketball career I would pick LeBron, I love basketball so this will be fun!
Now its important to create a timeline to do my research and complete my project. Give yourself plenty of uninterrupted time. Schedule on your calendar app about 2 hours a day for the next week to focus on the project. Make sure you have your basketball practice, work, church and sleep time on your calendar also. Next create an outline of the topic. Organize your project so it makes sense and is easy to follow. If you need supplies for your project such as a poster board tell your parents ahead of time so they can pick it up for you. Research your topic online and ask your teacher if you are on the right track with your project. Your teacher gave you specific guidelines for the project make sure you double check those also so you don't get docked points for missing information.
Once you write your project or complete it have a trusted friend read it for you to make sure it is grammatically correct. You may have read it over multiple times but your eyes will read what they think it is, not what is actually says. Ask your teacher to take a look also. Did you cite your sources correctly, did you include all of your sources? Make sure you hand the project in on time, you've worked to hard to lose points on a late assignment. Wow, this all seems like a lot of work! But getting an A on your project will feel fantastic. My parents will have something to brag about now!
