Sheriff's Office Cadet Program by Levi - December 2019 Scholarship Essay
There have been countless opportunities I have had in my teen years to help my community; one of those opportunities is being a part of a cadet program. Growing up, I was always interested in law enforcement and assisting people in their times of hardship. The cadet program has given me a perfect opportunity to grow my strengths in that field of knowledge.
In case you are not familiar, a cadet program is a law enforcement program that allows young adults to train and assist in police or deputy duties. I joined my local cadet program in the winter of 2017. Since then, I have volunteered over six hundred hours to my community and training. Throughout the program, we have continuous activities such as community security, traffic control, recruiting events, and miscellaneous events that benefit the local area. Our goal is to protect the community and state, and also to give those who may have a negative feeling towards law enforcement a renewed sense of safety and kindness.
Being a part of this program has changed my view of my community immensely. I now have a personal touch with many of the youth organizations and can relate more clearly to those who are struggling not only with the law, but also with different life situations. I have gained compassion and knowledge about how to help those who come from different backgrounds than myself. This amazing program that I am blessed to be a part of has completely changed my life and improved my ability to help others in times of crisis. My goal as a cadet is to impact every person that I speak to positively. Doing so, I can show others that stereotypes are false. I can change the way that people view us in uniform and show them that they are genuinely cared for and loved.
