My method by LeAnn - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
While preparing for my exams I use a useful method that most other students do not have to opportunity to use. When studying I can never sit down for hours where I am reading packet after packet of notes. I am a visual learner so whenever I can picture what is going on I am able to retain the knowledge easier.
I currently work at a hospital where I have been a nursing assistant for the past two years. The most helpful method for me in nursing school is relating everything back to my experiences at work. When we are learning about a disease process I try to picture a patient that I have cared for who has had that specific disease or health problem.
During my study sessions I will read over my notes while at the same time visualizing how my patient with that certain health problem acted throughout the days that I had them. It has immensely helped me prep for upcoming exams. This semester we have learned about acute and chronic healthcare problems which involve strokes, neurological disorders, and musculoskeletal disorders. The floor I work on is an orthopedic, trauma, and neurological floor. I have been fortunate to say the least to be able to “study” each and every day that I come to work.
