The Reality of Virtual Reality by Lauren - February 2018 Scholarship Essay
It is hard to predict what will be an integral part of education twenty years into the future because technology is constantly changing. When I was in elementary school I never thought we would have smart devices rented to us like textbooks or white boards, or even projectors. However, ten years later, we utilize all these tools on a daily basis, making education nearly impossible without them.
In the year 2038, there will probably be something involving virtual reality in most classes, used to simulate a real experience to enhance education. This can be used in history classes, allowing students to be a part of the civil war, having orders barked at them by a general or experience the culture and traditions of ancient Roman Empires. This technology can also be used in world language classes, transporting students to another country, allowing them to experience an immersion. This allows the student to experience a more realistic culture and spoken language, better improving their language performance and preparing them for a real-life experience. They can even be used in math to create real life scenarios of the material that they are learning in order to better understand how they will use their education later on in life.
With this virtual reality, the students would have a better understanding of the world around them, giving them more to learn, and in turn, enhancing the overall education of school. With the better education that this technology will provide, future students will be better equipped for the outside world and be more knowledgeable about historic topics.
