A LIFETIME OF LEARNING by Lashandra - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

As a human race, we will literally learn something every day of our lives. It is inevitable. I'm a single mother of two beautiful daughters and I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. My ultimate goal is to work in the juvenile justice system. I have an intense passion for helping our youth. The children of today are our future and I feel that it is our duty to lead and direct them down the right path and to mold them into being law abiding citizens so that one day they can pass their knowledge on to the next generation. Leading by example is the best teacher ever!
I am also working on starting my own, non-profit organization for the less fortunate teens, which will include after school programs, tutoring, sex education, health and fitness classes, financial assistance, life lessons, hygiene classes and many more resources that will be needed in life. I'm certain 25 years from now I will be learning from these young men and women. I will also be learning from my children and grandchildren. I will be an educator in the near future as well and I believe I will learn more from my students than they can ever learn from me.
Life has a way of teaching us as well. Throughout life there will be challenges and several life lessons learned. Books are filled with knowledge and based on the fact that I love to read I will continue to learn. This will be another way that I would continue to educate myself. Yes! Even 25 years from now. Learning never stops!
