I would add a subject titled Social Media Education. Social media is one of the most viable forms of communication and self-exposure tools used today. Social media can create issues both professionally and personally and cause damage to a person’s reputation. More importantly, social media can cause friction between family and friends, and in extreme cases can cause loss of or refusal of employment. This class would be multi-leveled, which starts out as an introductory course, then progresses to an advanced level course.

In the beginning levels of the course, it would start out by teaching students about self-awareness and potential dangers of social media. The beginning level courses would also address bullying, internet safety and security. The intermediate and advance classes would address issues such as marketing strategies (such as professional networking groups, etc.) as well as other ways to network, develop and showcase yourself in a positive light via social media. The more advanced classes would also teach students about the most common scams and controversial issues advertised on social media. As mentioned above, social media is an important part of our culture, therefore instruction should be implemented into the high school curriculum. In conclusion, social Media Education can potentially help students to avoid negative life altering events.
