#abetterme by Lacey - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
“Shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you are still among the stars.” That was my senior class quote when graduating high school and it has validated my longing to be the best I can and to achieve greatness.
From a very young age, I learned that I enjoy education and it’s very important to me. Growing up on a farm full of sheep, llamas, and chickens my education wasn’t always in the forefront. That was a good challenge for myself to always keep bettering myself even though I had chores to attend to.
Throughout my life, I have continued my education and broadened my skills through various avenues. While in high school, I worked very hard to maintain an exceptional GPA while going to school, working in home health care after school, and working as a maid on the weekends. I never gave up bettering myself even though I faced many obstacles and somedays I wanted to give up. After graduating high school, I went onto college.
I put myself through college while working, getting married, and buying a home. I wanted my education to be a great foundation for the rest of my life. A few years after college, I had a great opportunity fall into my lap for working for an independent insurance agency. I started out as a secretary and worked my way up to an Insurance Producer and Personal Lines Manager. I was able to achieve success within the insurance industry. Being able to teach customers about their insurance while gaining their business, which always put a smile on my face. Becoming an insurance producer only verified my wanting of a better me. It gave me a new purpose in life and it made me feel that I was making a difference in people’s lives.
My education did have a change of plans as my husband had a career promotion and we moved to another state. I decided to take that life changing opportunity and keep on bettering myself by enrolling myself into an undergraduate degree with two majors. I want to have the greatest chance of becoming successful by being a president of a company one day. I believe in always trying to better yourself and that keeps motivating me to be a better me.
