The Power to Overcome A Storm by Kylett - March 2018 Scholarship Essay

When I was just a little younger than you are right now, my mom and I lived in this house where I had a princess bed and I could run downstairs every morning and watch Dora the Explorer or Spongebob Squarepants. Unfortunately, a big storm came and it took that all away but as I grew up my mom was in college and always told me how important it was to continue my education past high school and continue my education. As I have grown older and bigger, I have started to realize that continuing your education beyond high school is not important only for you to achieve your dreams but to also give back to your family when you are older.
When I get older I want to be a doctor who treats young kids just like you but I need to know a lot of information to be a good doctor. I have to know all the parts of the body and all the different types of medicine but they don't teach that to you elementary or high school so I have to go to college. In college they will teach me all the bones in the body and how to treat little kids so that when someone needs my help as a doctor I can make them feel better. Without knowing the information they will teach me in college I may not know what is wrong and then I can’t treat or help anyone.
Even if your not going to be a doctor, almost any job can benefit from continuing your education like if you wanted to be a dancer, actor, musician, or even a chef you can take colleges classes to learn different dances, how to play different instruments or sing, or how to cook new dishes. With these classes you could go and dance on Broadway, cook and act on television, or sing in front of thousands of people. By going to college you can become anything you want whether it is a firefighter, police officer, lawyer or veterinarian. Going to college will let you learn so that you can be successful at your dream job.
With all my moms hard work in college she learned a lot and we were able to get a new house and now I have pictures of superheros and animals everywhere but we may have not gotten all this had my mom not worked so hard and gone to college. My mom has given me everything from food to clothes and one day when she stops working I want to give her the same thing. With my college degree, I'll make money so that I can not only get everything I want like an Xbox or make up but also so that I can give back to my mom and take her on vacations and trips around the world.
Even if you don't know what you want to be when you get older or you just like Star Wars, Pokemon or stuffed animals it is still important to go to continue learning whether that means going to college or getting a certification, can figure out what you love to do and learn everything you need to be successful at your job. As long as you continue your education you can become anything you want to be, give back to your family and overcome any storm.
