Keys to Success: Determination, Communication, Teamwork by Kylee - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
As a freshman in high school, I was introduced to Project Based Learning. This style of learning has taught me much more than just the state standards and the subject requirements. I have learned how to be successful in projects, which, I believe has prepared me for my future. They keys to success in a school project consist of determination, communication, and teamwork.
Some of my classmates are now wishing they had given more effort their freshman year. I hear this now and think of how satisfied I am because ever since I was a freshman I have been able to understand the importance of determination. In school projects I had to learn what my best work was, and not be willing to settle until I pushed it to that limit. Every project, whether it was big or little, I made sure to complete it to the best of my ability. I was able to realize if you work hard for what you want, the rewards will be greater knowing you gave it your all.
The next key to a successful project is communication. I was able to figure out this vital component throughout high school because of group settings. I have had good groups and bad groups, but one of the most important things is to communicate with each other. I learned to discuss the part of the project I was responsible for with my teachers and my fellow group members. This was crucial in making sure the project was being completed well, on time, with everyone taking on their proper role.
The final, and what I believe is the most important, is teamwork. In the group settings I have experienced, I have witnessed that the most successful projects have been created by teamwork. I understand when I say I will do something, it is my responsibility to get that task done, as well as for the rest of my group. It takes everyone in a project, giving their full effort, to make the project successful. I witnessed this my sophomore year when I had a presentation with my friends and we all contributed equally, with focus, and precision. We were able to add layers to the presentation to make our topic engaging, in turn wowing our teachers and classmates.
Throughout all of my high school years I have found success in projects using these three skills that will, someday, extend further than the classroom into my career in which I will use for the rest of my life.
