As a rising college freshman, preparing for a technology-dominated future, the decision to major in Computer Science/Programming, Computer Engineering, and Cybersecurity was not just an arbitrary choice; it was the culmination of my long-held aspiration, fueled by curiosity and an inherent inclination towards problem-solving. My name is Khwarmi Plummer, an ambitious Black man, committed to making substantial strides within the technology industry, a world that has conventionally lacked representation from individuals of my race. Backed by an impressive high school GPA of 3.8, I stand undeterred, fully determined to persevere through the rigorous collegiate journey that awaits me at respected institutions such as the University of Central Florida (UCF), Florida State University (FSU), and the University of Florida (UF).

What primarily motivates me to pursue my academic goals is the power technology holds to transform societies and improve lives across the globe. Living in an era defined by its rapid technology advancements and digital innovations, the potential influence one person, one idea, and one innovation can have is vast. I am driven by the possibility that my contribution in the realm of computer science, programming, or cybersecurity could positively impact thousands, if not millions, of lives.

Moreover, beyond the potential for global impact, my pursuit is fueled by a desire to challenge stereotypes and pave the way for future Black scientists, engineers, and programmers. Witnessing the underrepresentation of Black people in my chosen field, my motivation extends beyond personal success to a collective triumph for my community. The ambition to become a role model, to inspire and to open doors for the younger generation propels me forward.

Staying focused, in such a demanding and incessantly evolving field, can indeed be challenging. However, my strategy is simple yet effective—maintain a keen spirit of curiosity, a consistent work ethic, and a viewpoint of learning as a lifelong pursuit. There is an inherent excitement in the worlds of computer science and cybersecurity, fields that continuously evolve and always demand the learner's attention to detail and persistence. This exhilarating landscape, coupled with my inherent interest, keeps me passionate and focused.

Moreover, my resilience serves as a steadfast anchor, a trait I have honed as a Black student aiming high in spite of societal obstacles. I developed this resilience through various experiences, ranging from navigating the challenging curriculum to battling against the stereotype threat that often shadows Black students. I stay determined, I stay persistent, and ultimately, I stay focused.

In conclusion, the intersection of my ambitious dreams, my inherent interest in technology, and a sturdy resilience underpin my motivation to pursue my academic goals. I have, since the beginning, been moved by the prospects of making a tangible difference, challenging stereotypes, and serving as a springboard for similarly high-aiming aspirants from my community. With the aid of scholarships such as the Varsity Tutors College Scholarship, I hope to be one step closer to manifesting that vision into a reality.
