I was the new kid when I came to Mansfield Lake Ridge High School: the new school district, new education tactics, new people, and overall new environment. I saw nothing wrong with our school the first year or that it needed some adjustments. Mainly because my first year was COVID-19, and almost everything was restricted.
By sophomore year, I saw that Lake Ridge needed to make some changes. They became more strict with the students about the times we were supposed to make it to class. But Lake Ridge is only half a circle with over 2,000-3,000 students walking through a 5-minute passing period. To help make this easier, I suggest creating a 10-minute passing period rule so that students have time to make it to their next class, use the restroom, see another teacher if needed, or even speak to a friend or two. Not only does this positively help the students, but it also helps the teachers and gives their minds the chance to reset before teaching their next class.
Another big thing I noticed about my school is its many cliches. It's not much of a family or togetherness school. I would figure something out to positively shift my high school so everyone feels like family. When the school feels more like a team and together, it makes the events, games, and just a school day feel better. Yes, we all come together at our sports games, but not so much in school. We have a good student council; however some of the things they plan for could be more fun, which causes people not to participate. A positive shift would be to create more creative and interactive events where people would want to participate.
If I had the authority to change my school positively, I would create a better environment for the students and facility staff so school isn't something everyone dreads daily. I am starting with the student council and student body. With their help, we can create a better Lake Ridge: The Best Ridge.
