Striking a Balance by Kennedy - December 2017 Scholarship Essay
To maintain a healthy balance as you prepare for a big project, strike a harmony between preparing for the project, and preparing yourself for the project.
Preparing for the project can be accomplished through modernized means. For example, utilizing Quizlet or reviewing electronic notes will boost your confidence! You can simultaneously refresh on the material while enjoying the ease of modern technology. After reviewing online, print out practice questions and fill in the blanks with your pencil. This way, all the information is processed throughout the entirety of your brain. Once you have sufficiently researched your subject, and feel familiar with the information, you can proceed to create a format for the project. Old fashioned teachers may prefer physical manifestations of your knowledge - like poster boards! Others may feel more comfortable with a PowerPoint presentation. Communication with your teacher, and a thorough reading of the rubric, are prerequisites to getting an A! Once you've selected your presentation format, the only task left to accomplish is the oral delivery. Practice saying exactly what you plan to say when you present your project to the class. Doing this in front of a mirror can give you insight into your presentation style, and can help you to improve your public speaking.
Preparing yourself for the project is almost as important as preparing for the project itself. Preparing yourself stipulates that you indulge in self-care. Many students are resistant to taking self-care time before important presentations, but the evidence shows that better rested, well fed, stress free individuals preform better on tests! Take a bath, go out to eat, or even nap! Do what makes you feel more at ease. This, combined with actual studying, will get you through your big project!
