The Purpose of an Education by Kelly - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
In the end, the purpose of an education is to provide the individual an opportunity to succeed in receiving a position in a company in that person’s area of study. College in itself is a tool for students, but it becomes the student’s responsibility to take the next step in becoming self-sufficient by going to class and other activities on their own. It also allows the individual to go beyond their area of comfort and explore the world and meeting or networking with people. When this happens a better-rounded person is born just like a caterpillar becomes a butterfly. The child needs to be able to break the bonds of their parents to explore the world around them.
Some of us may already have that spark of excitement and already know what they want to do in life, while some may not have had the parents push or opportunities in the community where they live. College can provide that path when that path has been a little unclear.
With the insurgence of community colleges a student can learn a trade quicker, spend less money on tuition, and dedicate attention to that field closer to home. Even in this environment someone can still become a productive member of society.
Sure on can make it well on the outside even if they do not have a college education and these people like Richard Branson, are to look up to, but one must understand the drive, commitment, and sacrifice they put forth. If we don't have this tenacity then gaining a college education is the next best thing.
