The True Meaning of Success by Keely - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

When looking at the dictionary, success means the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. However, success can mean different things depending on the subject and the person experiencing it.
People often determine success when they have done a task to the best of their ability. If they did not end up doing as well as they thought, it could lead them to feel a sense of failure. This idea often comes up a lot when people are in college or graduate school. Most people often view success as getting good grades, but I think that is only a small piece to success in college or graduate school.
To me, having success in college is having the opportunity to learn new things. College allows you to acquire concepts and ideas that will help you in the future, but it also lets you look at different outlooks on a particular subject. Learning these skills will allow you to be successful in the workplace and become a well-rounded individual.
Success in college means that you can grow as a person. We are still young, and there is still so much for us to learn. College is one of the first places where a person will have to be independent, and sometimes that can be challenging. But we overcome these challenges, come out as better people, and are ultimately met by success.
Success in college means that you can become the person that you are supposed to be. College is about finding who you are and where you fit in in the world. You are working towards receiving a degree in something you love, meeting new people, experiencing new things, and going to new places. All of these things shape and mold you into the best version of yourself.
Looking back, I would have said that success means getting good grades or being the best. But as I am writing this, I have found that my definition of success has changed. Now to me, I define success as simple as living your best life. We face many obstacles in our lives, but we learn, and we grow from overcoming them. We also need to know that it is ok if we are not perfect. We are human, and it is ok to make mistakes. Lastly, we have to know that we are right where we are supposed to be at this moment, and that to me means success.
