The True Purpose of Education by Kane - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

The purpose of education is to receive the truth. If something or someone is not leading you to the truth, abstain from it.

What is the purpose of education? An extremely deep question because you’re not asking what is education but why does education even exist.

Education is what you receive from the teaching of someone or something. And the truth alone is worth receiving.

Proverbs 23:23 (KJV)
Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Education exists so the truth can be received, understood, and applied. It’s not enough to receive, have knowledge, and understand the truth. It must be applied in all doing, which is wisdom. If what you receive is not what you do then it is dead and dormant. A word for this state is foolishness. Wisdom is not knowing something but knowing something and doing that exact thing.

So the purpose of education is to receive the truth and to do the truth. As a result wisdom will also be received and exercised.

“But be ye doers…and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
