Stepping into college as a freshman is a rite of passage, the beginning of new knowledge yet college can be intimidating and terrifying. What’s more intimidating is attending college in another country and studying abroad. Studying in another country that’s so foreign you may think it’s another world, yet studying abroad may carry more benefits than you think and everybody should be required to experience this phenomenon.
Many students lack the international relations, language capabilities, and cross-cultural communications needed to succeed in a world where the line between culture is being blurred. Studying abroad is an effective way for students to acquire these skills. The need to experience another culture, language and ultimately an education system is crucial for their success and the success of their nation. By gaining these tools of knowledge can give a better understanding of the world we live in. Studying abroad also leaves the student to be independent and along with it, a gain of maturity. As a person in a new world leaves you to understand a new culture and the student will grow. Studying abroad is not merely for an education but rather to grow as a person and connect the world we live in. As cultures mix and globalization increases, studying abroad will become a necessity because only the people who are culturally in-tuned will survive such a diverse world.
