A guide for Incoming Freshman - Varsity Tutors ScholarShip Essay
HighSchool , The place that is presumed to be where there's halls full of mean girls and invitations to parties every other weekend . Most freshmen come in with the idea that HighSchool is what is seen on tv or movies , but I am here to tell you the truth and give some advice . The reality of High School is that you need to do good starting freshman year (don't slack off), you should always take at least one honors course , participate in Extracurricular Activities, and also remember to study.
Freshman may think that HighSchool is all about friends and fun but you should always put your school work before everything else . Starting good from freshman year will help you not want to slack off later on because of the excuses “ oh I can just take credit recovery or summer school “. Starting of your first year of HighSchool with good grades will motivate you to get the same or even better grades for the remainder of your years in HighSchool. Colleges will also see that you were determined to get good grades during your first year of Highschool and so on.
Honors courses , A class with more material covered and a faster pace than a regular class . Some might be a little intimidated by taking an honors class but Its very beneficial , It's always good to challenge yourself . Honors will also help with you studying and making sure you manage your time . Not only is Taking an honors course beneficial for when you apply to college but its preparing you to later on be ready to take more than one honors class or Ap classes to boost your gpa and help you become a better student .
Lastly , Extracurricular Activities is a fun way to meet new people and keep your grades on track . Freshman year is where you really get to try new sports , dance , clubs and find what you enjoy doing. My advice is to Join a sport , sure grades are everything but you shouldn't feel like school is a full time job you can have fun while still working hard . Sports is a good way for you to meet people , gain good sportsmanship, and also still be able to stay on your grades since there are grade checks for sports.
Over all , Incoming Freshman should come in with the mindset to get good grades , Join Extracurricular Activities , And consider taking classes that Challenge them . HighSchool is What will Determine your lifestyle later in the future . It's better to have it Hard now then later on , Always try your hardest in school.
