Pursuing my Passion by Joshua - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

What motivates me to pursue my academic goals is a deep-rooted desire to make a meaningful impact in people's lives, inspired by the tireless dedication and hard work displayed by my family members in the medical field. Growing up as a first-generation Filipino-American, I was surrounded by relatives who worked as nurses, pharmacists, and therapists, and their stories illuminated the profound sense of fulfillment they found in their work. Witnessing their passion and the difference they made in others' lives inspired me to follow in their footsteps. Pursuing a major in a biology-related field, such as Kinesiology, Human Physiology, or Biology, is not merely a career choice but a reflection of my personal background and aspirations to contribute positively to society.

To stay focused on my academic goals, I remind myself of the end goal: becoming a Physician's Assistant. This involves envisioning the impact I aspire to make in the healthcare field and the lives of patients. Additionally, I maintain a strong support network of peers, mentors, and family members who encourage and motivate me along the way. Setting clear, achievable short-term goals helps break down the larger academic journey into manageable steps, keeping me on track and motivated. Furthermore, I prioritize self-care and balance in my life, ensuring that I allocate time for rest, relaxation, and hobbies to prevent burnout and maintain mental well-being. Ultimately, receiving a scholarship would not only alleviate financial burdens but also serve as a source of motivation and encouragement, reinforcing my commitment to achieving my academic and professional aspirations while honoring the sacrifices made by my family. It would propel me forward on my path towards success and fulfillment, empowering me to make my parents proud and fulfill my lifelong dreams.
