Leaving My Legacy by Jordyn - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
Studying the topics that I genuinely enjoy is the part of a college experience that I will be most thankful for. Along with this, I will possess the ability to impact others with my talents received from more focused studies. While education in all of the subjects during high school allows students to make a well-informed choice on their college major, I will no longer have to sacrifice my time and energy to areas of study that will not assist me in my future endeavors.
I aspire to become a nurse with my college degree, whether it be a pediatric nurse, a nurse anesthetist, or an OB/GYN nurse. Aside from my prerequisite courses, I will be able to dedicate my focus to succeeding only in subjects necessary to receive my nursing degree. Academically, socially, and spiritually, after receiving a nursing degree, I will be equipped to impact the world for Christ. My desire to become a nurse derives from my caring and kindhearted spirit. Nursing will provide me with the opportunity to serve others and share the message of Jesus Christ while doing the things that I am passionate about.
Every day, people receive opportunities to share the Gospel with others, but specifically, nursing offers a platform of opportunity to point to and glorify Christ. Nurses are able to develop real relationships with their patients, even during clinicals in college, and depending on the situation, they are there to support patients and their families as they make life-changing medical decisions. In John 3:30, the Bible says, “He must become greater, I must become less.” My hope is that Christ will be able to be seen through me and how I live my life. I believe that in my college experiences and in my nursing career, God will guide me to help and impact others in a variety of circumstances.
