An Elective Class That Should Be Required by Jordan - June 2018 Scholarship Essay

My sophomore year of high school, I took an elective class called Business Technology. My former teacher, Mr. Martin, is amazing at what he does. The basic curriculum for the class was to learn how to use all of the Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel. We learned how to type up a resume, a letterhead, and create our own business cards. At the time, I honestly didn't appreciate this class. But now that I've used the skills I've learned to graduate high school, I know the true power of this class.

The reason I think this class should be required is very simple, the skills learned will help students for the rest of their college and future careers. Learning the in's and out's of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, etc. has made all my other classes (mainly core classes) so much easier. Whether it's an essay or a slideshow for a project, the assignments flew by because I knew how to work all settings.

Knowing the little settings of Microsoft Word made my AP English classes especially less challenging. With all the essays I had to write and keep up with, Word was so much easier to use thanks to my former Business Technology teacher, Mr. Martin. I will forever me grateful for everything he has taught me.
