What is your biggest goal for this school year? Why? by Joey - September 2020 Scholarship Essay

My biggest goal from this upcoming school year is to take every ounce of knowledge, experience, and fun I can get. These changing circumstances have had a tremendous impact on our world, while impacting every single industry that creates it. From the mind of a college senior, with just one extra semester to go after that, my main focus is school; what I can still learn from it, and everything else that it involves through this challenging time, under any circumstance.
I transferred to Canisius College last fall after taking a gap year. Previously attending West Virginia University before that. I fell in love with my program the minute I heard about it, because it sounded catered to me, which it was. My major and lead professor at Canisius, have taught me so much about Integrated Marketing Communication. We had several informative field trips (as college students), guest alumni speakers, and in class discussions. College is different with classes in an online format. The social aspect is gone, learning environment, ability to hear everyone clearly for proper discussion, engagement, in-class handouts, consistent schedule, and the ability to cater to individual students' needs are all gone, essentially. Schools are doing their best, and so are most of the students, but I do not think this is anyones choice. This year I hope to take advantage of any and everything I can get. To do my best to have the same level of education and learn from it, not get myself or others sick, have the best senior year, stick to a schedule, set myself up for a successful future with internships, earn money while being a germaphobe. These goals have to be accomplished all while learning to transition from college to life after that.
I hope all students find a way to be successful during this trying time and still achieve the goals we set out to accomplish. Communities of all kinds have found brilliant ways to cope with the challenges they face, and I hope we can continue to do that. I want to be able to come out of the period stronger and more on track than before.
