The impact a teacher can make on one's life by Jillian - January 2025 Scholarship Essay
One teacher that has had a significantly impacted me throughout my High School and future career is Mr. Milke. Mr. Milke was an American history teacher during my sophomore year in High School. He is the teacher that every student hopes to have at least once in their High School career. He not only teachers students but he gives them a deeper appreciation for the world we live in today.
Looking back on my sophomore year in High School Mr. Milke has impacted my thinking not only about textbooks and lessons but on life itself and how precious it is. During my first couple class periods with Mr. Milke It was clear he was passionate about his job and enjoyed being around his students. He would take time to talk to my classmates and I about our days going; giving each student an opportunity to share. He would even allow us to come eat lunch in his classroom and play cards. Mr. Milke was very good at reading students' emotions and seeing if we would need to have a day where we would do absolutely nothing.
Using what he would learn from his students he would relate many things back to his lessons and assignments, making it easier for students to understand topics in history. One of things that helped me when I was stuck is Mr. Milke would give us prompts or come up with a scenario when we were stuck on any of the assignments. During his lessons one thing that set him apart from other teachers is he would relate some of the contemporary issues currently happening to the things that happened in the past; so he would jump off of the curriculum so that students would have a better understanding.
To conclude, Mr, Milke has taught me not only about American History but about how kind humans are in this world we live in. He has influenced me to make time for others and be there for them.
