Education is Key by Jillian - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

The parts of a college experience I will be most thankful for is continuing my education to become a nurse or doctor and meeting new people outside of my high school community. College is important in being successful, and I am proud I get the chance. My mom never had the opportunity or even knew she had the choice to attend college because her parents never talked about it with her, for that reason, she did not go. On the other hand, my dad’s parents expected that he would attend college, and they gave him the knowledge about it, and he did. That is also a choice for me, my parents are pushing me to go to college, so I can have a wide range of job options, and they are supportive with whatever I choose.
I am thankful to continue my education after high school because not everyone is able to get into college or even think about going. I am excited to start my journey to beginning my career as a nurse or doctor and transforming into an adult, and any small step I take is rewarding. The medical field is rewarding and helpful, so I am excited to start my career there.
In addition, my education will be in my own hands. I will get to choose which way I want to go with my life, which is different than high school. In high school, students get to choose classes, but there is still a set path you need to take in order to graduate. In college, there are millions of opportunities, including which school to choose and what major to have, and I am happy that I will get to make those choices.
I am excited to meet new people during college. My whole educational career, I have been in the same school system with generally the same students each year for 11 years now. It will be good to be exposed to unique personalities and teachers. I will be thankful to make additional friends with memories that will last a lifetime and that I will be able to look back and remember how good of a decision it was to attend college. I will meet people who have the same interests as I, which is crucial because we could relate and create lasting bonds. It is crucial because, often after high school, friend groups drift apart, and they need to make friends during college for adult life.
I am thankful to start maturing into an adult, and college is a big step that will help me do that. I am happy that I have parents who have the knowledge about college and who will be happy with whatever path I choose.
