Getting Fit is Getting Right! by Jhonna - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

My New Year’s Resolution is to get fit, toned, and to just exercise. Getting fit will help me to be a better student because working out will create a way for me to relieve stress and teach myself discipline. While being a college student does shape future opportunities, it causes stress for things like student debt. To cope with the stress of future responsibilities, working out would be beneficial in two aspects of my life: physical and mental health. Not only am I stressed about future debt, but I am self-pressured to be physically healthy and to get in shape. My anxiety of my self image would lessen if I contributed to a solution rather than not. If I am not constantly worrying about my body image I can focus on my school work and achieving my goals. Exercising requires determination and discipline, and in order to keep up with exercising I will achieve self discipline. It is easy to put exercising off and say I’ll do it later, and when later comes, I’ll say I’ll do it tomorrow. However, to strive for my goal I have to keep pushing myself and to keep trying to do better. Working out will relieve stress and build discipline that I can use to be the best student I can be.
