Finding Balance In Your Crazy Life by Jessica - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm, and harmony”--Thomas Merton There have been many scholars who emphasized importance of balance in life. Merton believes that balance in life brings happiness.In other words, if we push ourselves too far in one direction, we will lose the balance of the things in life that we truly need. In high school, every individual has an enormous array of options that is opened to them. Find a balance in each aspect of your life that is right for you.
Mental health is an aspect of life that people most often neglect. People begin to worry about what others want rather than what they truly need. It’s important to never forget to focus on yourself throughout your high school experience and beyond. Often people overwork themselves with what others ask of them. Humans can easily allow themselves to be pulled in too many directions. Find what your capacity for giving favors to friends and kindly respect it. If you are constantly helping other people, carrying their weight will crush you. If you care about your friends, you will take the time to make sure you are well enough to help them. Take your moments to allow yourself some alone time, or do what you enjoy. Decide upon your formula for maintaining mental health and follow it. Then, you may balance your needs with the needs of your family or friends graciously. Always remember to avoid neglecting those you care about while still caring for your own needs.
Although I wish it were possible, I do not have the ability to tell you the perfect way to balance your life. Every person has their own method of balancing what is important to them. Extra curricular activities are one high school element that many people find difficult to decipher. Since the beginning of time, students have struggled with their work overload and finding time to do what they love. You must analyze how much time you need to spend on schoolwork and the time you have left for extra curricular activities. If you take too much on to your plate you will become overwhelmed and all areas of your life will suffer. Do what you can and love then put your heart into it.
Many high school students do not know their plan for the future, yet some know exactly what theirs is. One final thing you should consider is the extent to which you plan your future. It is okay and common to not know what you want to do with your life yet. That is true, but do not disregard your future entirely. Life is unexpected; if you try and plan you future down to the second, something will go wrong. You should find your balance of planning what you want for your life and leaving yourself room to grow and change without disappointing yourself. You deserve to explore everything the world has to offer, take that chance while you make your plans for your life ahead. You can find the balance between sticking to what you originally plan and value and changing and growing what you know and believe.
Every human being deserves to enjoy their life. You deserve self care and peace. You deserve technical education through academics and social education through extra curricular activities. You deserve to enjoy yourself. You deserve to give yourself the chance to explore what you want in the future and make a plan as you grow. Everyone should find happiness and peace in their actions throughout their life. You can have a happy and wonderful high school experience through finding a good balance.
