My life by jessica - May 2016 Scholarship Essay

My names is Jessica Flores Bravo. It all started one day when my dad decided it was best for my brother and I to come to live in the United States to go to a good school to study and learn English. When my family and I arrived the United States, I felt different from all the people. Everything was different like the houses, and the streets it was all different life .

The first day of school I was nervous because I did not understand English and when I entered the school it seem huge like a castle I was scared of all the students. They were happy for the first day of school, but for me it was the worst day of my life. During the first class, I began just looking at the teacher as she taught the class and I could not understand anything. I remember one girl asked me ¨how are you?¨ and I could not answer. I looked at the clock but it was like the worst part of the day. It was not moving. During lunch all the students knew where to sit, but I didn’t. I wanted to leave and run and hug my mom. For weeks I felt sad because I still did not have any friends. And I couldn't understand the classes sometimes. It all seemed like another world.

A lot of the teachers helped me, especially Mrs. Holman. She was always with me.
Months later I met a friend who I'll never forget. She helped me with my homework especially in algebra because I knew nothing about mathematics. I could never thank her enough for what she did for me. We became great friends. I at first thought my dad made a wrong decision by moving here but now I realize he wants the best for my brother and I. Like my dad says, “I want you to become someone in life and not end up working like me.” I know now that he wants a better future for my brother and I.
After 4 years , I can now speak English. It was a very difficult path. In spite of everything my parents are my biggest inspiration. They were there through the good and bad times. They told me I could get great grades. Every day my father works in the field even if it’s raining and cold and he does that for my family. He only wants a better life for us. Each day I see him work and come home late which motivates me to be a better student and succeed in school and also to get a great job so can help my parents so they won’t have to work as hard anymore.

Now I understand the decision that my father made and I thank him and God for giving me this opportunity to study in a good school and learn a new language though it was not easy to come to this country and continue my life. But everything happens for a reason and I think I'm finally learning English. I know I still have much to learn. I will not give up so easily and I will continue trying to learn my new language and although sometimes I feel lost there is always hope and a voice that says you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Nothing in life is easy. To succeed in life you need to put all your strength. I just get on with my new life and continue to learn this new language and be able to finish high school so I can get my family out and be able to show that when you work hard for something you can achieve.
My biggest dream is to be a great doctor. I am interested in being a doctor because I like to help people. Even though the school and training are very hard, it pays off in the end, when someone can make a difference in someone's life. To become a doctor, one must endure a lot of training and education. I'm a little nervous now Because soon will be my first year in college. It will be a new experience for me is a very long and difficult path the first step
