Celebration for all! by Jeanaliz - September 2023 Scholarship Essay
During freshman year, universities go to the fullest extent in instilling a sense of community by having an array of freshman events. These events are used in order to help first-year students feel connected and a part of the campus life community. However, one of the biggest downfalls of this is that these events no longer continue for upperclassmen as they move forward throughout their educational journey.
I vividly remember my freshman year being filled with lively events, entertaining socials, festive fairs, and a multitude of other activities that feel engrossed and a part of the University. As you move forward throughout the years, fewer activities and events were curated towards second-year students, and so on. Thus, if I had the authority, one way I would instill a change in my university is to curate more special events for students who are moving through their educational journey. Freshman year is a great way to celebrate your new life, however, sophomore and junior year should be equally recognized to celebrate your unwavering determination in continuing your education journey!
There should be joy in finding the strength to continue throughout college and finding the diligence to carry on! Higher education is a privilege and we should celebrate that in all the years that we spend at an institution as well as how far we’ve come and the places we will go.
