Panther Prep by Jayden - March 2019 Scholarship Essay
At my current high school I am involved in a program where we do actually lead incoming freshmen around the school and answer their questions. this club is called Panther Prep (as in the LNHS panthers) and have been involved in it for two years now. I really enjoy helping them with their questions and concerns. Throughout their orientation day, I give out many pieces of advice while transitioning from place to place inside the school. I enjoy telling them and I hope they thoroughly listen to what I have to say.
The first thing I tell the freshmen is to get involved. By this I mean a wide array and mixture of sports, clubs, activities, and volunteer work. I remind them that while it's good to be successful in a particular area, that they shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket. It's good to be involved in different aspects to help show colleges that you are part of your school and dedicated to supporting your community.
I also tell the freshmen to take AP classes. I don't mean to pressure them, but from experience I know that AP classes help with essay writing and could even get them out of college courses. I also feel that it better prepares students for college courses and requirements. Also I know of many people who chose to take regular classes and have found them to be too easy and uninteresting.
Overall, I want the freshmen to know that teachers are on their side. they want to see their students graduate and go on to college and generally succeed in life. They are there to help you, and building relationships can make asking for recommendations later on easier for them and you as a student. Teachers are the backbone of every school.
