Why A College Education is Essential For My Career Goal by Jasmine - April 2020 Scholarship Essay

As a soon to be high school graduate, I understand that a college education is an essential part of me becoming a self-sufficient adult. My parents and other mentors have always stressed the importance of education.This fact was instrumental in me focusing on my academics but also volunteering many hours of community service. I have always been an advocate for helping others so a career as a medical professional was a natural calling for me. My career goal is to become a nurse practitioner and college education is essential.

In order to become a nurse practitioner, I need to earn a bachelor's in nursing and a master's degree of science and nursing. As a degree medical professional, I will have the ability to serve my community by helping others while possessing a solid skill set that will always be in demand. I can also learn from medical professionals that I will meet during my classes and possibly make connections with to gain experience in the medical field.

A college education is vital to reach my long term goal. Gaining additional knowledge will allow me to acquire skills to ultimately become a nurse practitioner and to help people in my community. Also, I understand that pursuing a higher education will come with conditions of maintaining a minimum grade point average will also serve as an incentive to keep me focused on my ultimate goal of graduating with a degree so I can begin a career in nursing.
