Believe by Jaron - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
Life should be about doing what you love and making this world better before your gone. I can feel my success and see my future. This is what I believe and thought about when I decided I wanted to go to college. I think I thought of this because it embodies my dad and his path to where he is now.
I live with my mom, dad, and younger brother. we lived in the state of Wisconsin for the first 13 years of my life, then we moved to Oregon. My dad has a masters degree in business with an emphasis in HR and my mom never finished college. My mom is an account specialist in a big company called RR Donnelley and my dad is in the HR department for the state of Oregon. While my dad was going to college to get his bachelors and masters degrees, which he got back to back, my mom was working overtime. This meant my mom and dad weren't home until late at night and when they were home they were usually really tired.
Bold, responsible, and creative are all ways I would describe myself. I am hardworking but that's when I'm inspired to do so. When it comes to work that I'm not fond of than I tend to procrastinate. This is my greatest obstacle. Luckily I learned quickly that procrastination is not a healthy habit. A few missed assignment and bad grades were my own fault. Although I could appeal to some of my teachers and still get there work done, procrastination has no place in the real world. This is why I learned to work hard even if it's not enjoyable.
Showing up at 5:30 in the morning to help my coach in the preseason with the incoming freshman football players was worth it. I would meet my coach in the gym and we would stand at the door greeting the tired freshman as they wandered into the gym. We taught them how to be safe in the weight room and how to properly warm up before lifting so they wouldn't hurt themselves. But what I really liked was that we went to freshman day (A day were only freshmen come to school to meet teachers and find their classes) to cheer on the new freshman into the school for their first assembly. I remember being anxious on my first day of high school. It made me appreciate others and provide opportunities for others.
Because I believe you should do what you love in your life I plan to get a Computer Science degree in college. I will prepare to do what I love by going to college in Bend at the OSU Cascades campus. Not only will I make an impact on the Oregon programming world, but I plan to collectively engage in my community.
Because of this scholarships are a must, or else it will be very difficult to reach my dream. That is why I'm working hard to receive scholarships, I will reach my goals.
