Tenacity, a trait the best leaders possess by Janiya - December 2021 Scholarship Essay

Leaders are best identified not by their work, but by their character. Tenacity is a quality that a genuine leader must possess. Tenacity in a leader allows them to stay strong in the face of hardship and gives them the ability to inspire others. Tenacity is the best quality that a leader can have.
Merriam Webster defines tenacity as "the attribute of being highly determined." In other terms, tenacity refers to a person's capacity to stick to a goal. Leaders are those who have positions of authority and are successful in attaining their objectives. Leaders can have a wide range of personalities. They might be shy, outgoing, assertive, and compassionate, but they must be tenacious.
Today, there are a number of leaders who have shown perseverance and tenacity. Malala Yousafzi is a determined Nobel Laureate, advocate, and leader. Ms. Yousafzai used to live in fear and peril, when she was attacked and nearly killed simply for going to school. Malala might have chosen one of countless routes after being injured, but she chose to be both bold and tenacious. Ms. Yousafzai pursued her educational path and achieved a great deal in the field of school reform. Malala is a leader because she has persevered in the face of attempts to silence her and her message. Former President Barack Obama, similarly, is a tenacious leader. Before, during, and after his administration, Mr. Obama experienced numerous challenges related to racism. He could have easily let adversity deter him from reaching his aspirations. He, on the other hand, did not. He went on to become our country's first African-American president, and he's accomplished a lot since then. All of these leaders' success was based on their tenacity.
Leaders must be prepared to face adversity with zeal and resolve. If this is not the case, there is very little that can be accomplished. Ambition and unshakable courage are fueled by the presence of tenacity within leadership.
