My Resolution is my inner Revolution by Jair - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
For many a new year means becoming a newer, better person. Even in 2016 people still make resolutions to try and erase their errors. In 2016 my New Year’s Resolution is to complete my work as soon as possible. In today’s world there are many challenges and struggles we have to overcome. Many will go through the pain of getting the work done, no matter what. While others, will put the work to the side, and attempt to do it later. Procrastination is something that runs into the minds of not just children and teenagers. But this is an issue that adults and the elderly struggle with as well. Procrastination prevents the chance of success, order, and a decrease in stress. Putting your work on hold only temporally decreases stress, but not fully in the end. Time is the enemy when it comes to work. The longer you wait the weaker the work you turn in will be. The person that delays will have to rush, not being fully prepared to do what they need to do. The due date is closer, decreasing the chance for your best performance. Procrastination is an internal conflict I’ve struggled with. This prevented me from getting an A, rather I got a B. The fight to end this is a revolution inside my head. This year I will have to overthrow this lazy way of thinking and become a more successful resourceful student and individual.
The revolution in my mind will not be fought with guns, or soldiers, but with my previous experiences. In the past many of my classmates were last minute workers. Many of them got hundreds or a very high grade. In some way I imitated their actions. Unfortunately imitating their actions has resulted in my downfall numerous of times. A resolution and revolution are meant for changing for the better. To change myself is to abandon the beliefs I’ve believed in for so long. Such as thinking that waiting till the last minute to do an assignment won’t affect me at all. However I realized that waiting to the end isn’t satisfactory at all for a student. To change myself is to surpass my previous self and to evolve. As a tennis player and athlete at my school, putting in the effort have lead me to evolve. Waiting to the last minute shows only slows down the process and forces me to work harder. Even though this resolution to work harder will be painful, it’ll lead to more pleasant experiences for me in the future.
