Goal for the new year by Jahnari - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

THE YEAR SO FAR

2022 started on rough footing. I'd been on cycles of depression which had its turn on my social, academic and spiritual life.

Through this experience, I got to know firsthand that it is something underrated, and often people passing through depressive cycles are further traumatized by misunderstandings and judgmental remarks.

The beginning of the year is always a moment of double preparation because it's also a period where I get to mark my birth anniversary and set goals for the year. This year's goal was to get a good grip of myself and refocus on the things that matter most to me.

So far, I've regained a good level of self-appreciation, reordered my priorities, and placed my relationships with persons on various strata (levels) - as it should be for any human being.

Having recovered from my depression and regained balance, I picked up a recovering stance in my academic pursuit. In this, I had majorly to tackle my procrastination and sleeping habits.
With barely 4 months to the end of this year and having wrapped up my 3rd year of philosophical studies, I feel greatly accomplished by the grace of God and the help of well-meaning individuals who God has brought my way.

By the end of this year, I hope to have advanced in writing my long essay and mastered the art of content creation, graphics design, and copywriting skills.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned this year are:

We are individuals but a community of persons. Sometimes we are carried away by the quest for self-assertion, independence, and individuality that we tend to overlook the wealth of persons who God has placed in our lives to serve as our support system and backbones to help us pull through our life’s challenges.

God works through persons – my greatest miracles this year have been wrought through the loving, tender arms of the love of persons around me. I have felt the love of God this year through my loved ones. I remain ever grateful and indebted to love.
