Snap by Hannah - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
A lot will be different in ten years, but there is one thing I know will never change. I will always have a camera in my hand. There is no feeling like catching the moment a player goes up for a dunk, or the joyful laugh of a child greedily grabbing an ice cream cone. I am in my element, my happy place. As a photojournalist I will capture moments every day.
I have always felt a pull to help people, to make a difference. I have done this locally through youth softball coaching and volunteering at the humane society, but I want to reach higher. I want my work to inspire a larger audience and have a greater impact. With my journalism degree, I will work for a nonprofit that does just that. I am passionate about animal conservation and the work nonprofits are doing to keep species alive. I will document and share their amazing work and spread awareness through my art. National Geographic, the World Wildlife Fund, nothing is out of reach for me. I absolutely can not wait to be able to spend every day looking through my lens. In ten years, I will be a very happy, successful artist making a difference.
