Teaching English by Hannah - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If the roles were reversed, I would teach english. English is such a diverse subject. It is different to everyone. Some people love to write and others like to read. Either way, the subject that is being taught is English. I believe, that while teaching English the students would be learning and so would I. Reading important stories that teach incredible lessons and hearing the opinions of the students would be so mind-opening. I would love to teach English because I love reading. I love imagining the characters and what they would look like. I also love the thought that maybe these stories could actually happen in real life. Being able to picture an entire different world in your head just by reading words off of a page is amazing. Embarking on a journey with my students and teaching them to comprehend a paragraph would be such an unbelievable feeling.
Different languages and dialects make english so different and unique. Just from one paragraph, I can pick apart feelings and emotions from the fictional character. Students who may not be so big into reading or writing, could learn to love it with my teaching styles. I would make sure to take in my students' opinions and always listen to what they had to say. English is so incredibly different from all of the other subjects. I love english and I would be a great teacher because of how wonderful of a subject it is.
