A Bridge to the Future by Greg - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

As a kid a very common question that we are all asked is "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Most kids don't respond with a plain answer like "work at McDonalds or be a cashier" (there is nothing wrong with these jobs whatsoever). Kids tend to dream big, and the majority of these dreams require a higher level of education. Your dream job can be pictured as followed: you are on one side of a river 100 feet in width, and your job is just on the other side. The only thing holding you back from your job is a river. An education is important because it is the bridge that will help you cross the river. Without an education it is nearly impossible to cross that river.

Gaining an education is crucial to not only obtaining your dream job, but to becoming a more well rounded individual. If you obtain an education you are proving to employers that you have the ability to critically think, and push yourself through difficult tasks. An education helps you become more of an asset to employers due to their trusting in your abilities. A college I know of has a motto "Not for school, but for life". This motto is a keen example of how an education not only prepares you for a job, but it prepares you for life. Next time you hear a kid telling someone what he or she want to be when they grow up, remind them about how important an education is because an education will be their bridge to the future.
