To succeed and conquer by Gonzalo - January 2014 Scholarship Essay
What makes me study effectively? I have two ways that insures I study effectively. The first is discipline. If you want to do anything in life, you need to discipline yourself. I discipline myself in my studies in a variety of ways. When I have to study or do projects, I insure that I put my focus on the objective and don’t stop until it is completed. If I have an exam, then I set aside the time and insure that I have an area where I can study. Another thing that helps me with discipline is a desire. If I truly want to get it done, then I have to be willing to achieve it. I have to desire to do excellent on the exam and I enjoy doing it. To me, disciplining myself was a difficult process. There were time when I was lazy, tired, or I just didn’t want to study, but I disciplined myself. I said to myself that if I want to get anywhere in life, then I have to be willing to study. I have to have a desire to do well on the exam. That is my way and it always will be.
In addition to discipline and desire, I have perseverance. To me, perseverance is being willing to see any challenge or test to the end. It is willing, despite any obstacle, to overcome and achieve the goal. That is what studying is to me. It is willing to dedicate numerous hours to a topic and understand it completely. I’m able to do it and then take joy in knowing that I understood it and have mastered it. Then the test measure if I truly understand it or not. I’m willing and able to go study hours on end in order to achieve my goals. After all, nobody can do it for me. Only I am able to do it for myself and it ultimately benefits me. That is how I finished high school in two years. That is also why I’m in college today at seventeen. I’m taking courses and I shall discipline myself and see it all the way through. That is how winning is done and that is what I shall do.
