Best of Both Worlds by Galilea - June 2023 Scholarship Essay

In ten years I envision myself working for my community as a creative director, with a focus on highlighting underserved communities and local businesses in my city through various mediums such as 3D modeling, animation, and short films. My education will play a pivotal role in achieving these goals. Currently majoring in both Sociology and Media X (Study of arts and technologies) I value the integration of disciplinary skills and applying them to the real world.

As a student at University of the Pacific, I have been fortunate to explore sociological concepts that affect my city while honing my skills in creative thinking and3D modeling. Merging these two worlds seems abstract and innovative, but that's precisely what I find most intriguing about my two majors. As a first-generation Latinx college student, I have seized every academic opportunity available to me, given the limited access and opportunities I experienced while growing up.

I feel like I am on the right track to achieve my goals. I have over four years of community involvement, which has allowed me to see the issues affecting my community. It is what got me interested in learning more about the problems faced in my city and how I can contribute to its well-being. Although my end goal contribution is outside the norm, It is what I value the most. After all, I get the best of both worlds.
