New Year's Resolutions by Gabrielle - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

The new year is upon us and many people have made new year’s resolutions for themselves. For many people this may be losing weight, saving money, or decluttering their life. For myself I decided to make my new year’s resolution to become more organized.
What does it mean to you to be organized? Google’s definition of organized is having one’s affairs in order as to deal with them efficiently. To me being organized means having everything planned out so you can get things done on time. I think being more organized will help me tremendously as a student in 2016 both as I finish high school and as I begin college. There are many steps that one can take to become more organized.
The first step I plan on taking is to use a planner everyday to write things down in. I will keep track of school assignments, due dates of projects, work schedule, scholarship deadlines, and life events. In doing this I will be able to better determine what my time needs to be used for in a certain day. For example if I have an assignment due at the end of the week but I have a scholarship essay that is due in two days I would write the essay first. This leads to my second step.
The second step I plan on taking is to schedule time each day for certain things. Each day I will have time set aside for school work, but I may also have to include work, or scholarships. In doing this I will feel more at ease that I will not be so rushed to complete an assignment and since I am going to have things wrote down in my planner I will be able to keep track of what I should study first. This step will also help with step number three.
The third and final step I plan on taking is to work on not procrastinating when it comes to assignments and papers. When you don’t have things wrote down or a plan in place it is easy to forget something is due and have to rush to complete it. With having everything written in a planner and time set aside each day I will have an easier time completing things without rushing.
I believe all of these steps are going to come together to help make me into a better student. They will help me to complete assignments on time, in a non-rushed matter, to the fullest of my ability. This will in turn improve assignment scores, tests scores, and in the end grades. It is my hope that with starting this now I will have a plan set in place that works by the time I start college in the fall. In ending to some new year’s resolutions may be a joke or a waste of time, but to me I’m hoping it's something that will improve my life as a student.
