Nutrition and the Body by Evelyn - August 2013 Scholarship Essay
After taking a class in anatomy and physiology of the human body I could not begin to tell you how many interesting lessons I have learned. I was amazed to find out that our bodies are equipped to overcome just about any challenge from the microbe world. Our bodies simply need to be properly taken care of.
Our bodies are equipped with an immune system that can destroy bacteria and even cancer cells. Our immune system cells have the ability to not only combat infectious diseases but also produce memory cells that are able to recognize that same infectious disease. This process makes the attack on the foreign body rapid and efficient. Our cells are able to recognize anything foreign including cancer cells.
In order for this process to be successful we must provide our bodies with essential nutrients. In doing so, our bodies are more than capable of fighting off even the deadliest of infections. Eating properly and eliminating stress can do wanders. My professor told us on a daily basis that the key to a healthy, happy life is stress management, exercise and a balanced diet.
I am not a health freak, but I do believe that living a healthy lifestyle will improve my quality of life for years to come.
