The Advantages by Evelin - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
Being that my sister and I were born on the south side of Chicago, we were citizens of a country with many opportunities. At the moment those opportunities weren’t evident; once we moved to Wisconsin and started high school, our eyes were opened to new opportunities. I learned that after high school you could go to college to better your life and education. When I mentioned that to my parents, they were very excited because that was their plan. To give me and my sister a better life from what they had. Still, there was a very big problem; my family had very little money. We lived in a one-bedroom apartment with one foot in between my parent's bed and the bed my sister and I shared. But during that time I did not mind. My main priority was to keep my grades up and go to college so I could have a different future than what my parents had.
Being a first generation student to even attend high school, I would better my future and the life of my parents. I would also be able to communicate my love for art by majoring in Art Education and helping those kids who are just as lost as I was. First generation is something that should be celebrated and further my education would let me do just that. Going to school would give many more opportunities than what I have already been provided, and taking advantage of all of them would be my plan
Advantages are crucially to surviving in this world and going to college and getting educated is what puts you further than those who do not seem interested in college. Therefore, advantage is the one word I would chose to describe why I want to attend college. To receive even more opportunities and better my own future.
