The Purpose of Education by Erin - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

The purpose of education is to enlighten and expand the minds of the people who are receiving said education. Without education, our society would never improve. We, instead, would only regress back to cavemen-like societies, or at best, a hunter-gatherer like society. Everything that we have learned over centuries and centuries of growth, development, and education would be gone, undone and unlearned, within an instant. The children of an education-less society would be feral, evil, and simply uncontrollable. No one would grow, change, or adapt to society like we do in today's education-driven world.

Education is vital to our society, and to the minds of those receiving it. We need education for people to grow. To me, education means hope for the future. It means influencing and expanding the minds of the next generation. It means spreading your knowledge. Education means being able to shape society for the next generation, while simultaneously influencing the minds of the next generation.

To me, education means everything; and that's why I plan on going into it as a career. For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be an English teacher, with a specialty in gifted and talented kids. I want to be able to help shape the minds of the next generation.
