One Quote by Emily - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

Walking into to high school as a freshman, it would have never have crossed my mind that senior year would come up this quickly. Throughout my years in high school, I have made many memories and learned many lessons, but picking one quote that describes this experience is a difficult feat. I do not know whether to focus on my academic achievements, sports achievements, or the overall experience itself. Yes, the journey as a whole is important, but it is what has gotten me to the finish line that holds a high line of gratitude. I would not be where I am today without my parents, coaches, and friends. They are the ones that have introduced me to new sports, which has then led me to meet new friends and encounter new beginnings. Stepping out of my comfort is what truly defines me as a person, which is what brings me to pick this quote that I look towards everyday. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take,” truly defines me as a person and allows me to push myself and take on challenges I once thought I could not. If I never tried sports, then I would have never discovered that that is when I am at my best. Entering high school, I was hesitant to try out for the teams because it was a completely new territory for me. Since I tried, I can proudly say that I am not only a three season captain, but I am a four year, three season student-athlete. If I had just dropped sports, then school may have been easier, and I would have never seen myself at my best. Challenging classes is what pushes me to do better. Without giving those classes a shot, then I would never have learned my true academic ability. For the longest time, I had no clue what job I wanted to pursue in the future. With that, I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried a Teaching Internship at my school. By doing this internship, I discovered the career path I would like to take in my near future. This internship was a perfect opportunity to be exposed to a type of field and since I took advantage of it, I was able to discover who I am, and what I want to do. With this, I am proud that I crossed paths with these challenges because it has not only allowed for strength to be gained but growth to be had. Although there are many quotes in the world, I feel as though this one gravitates towards all different aspects and components in my life that describe me.
