Productive Nights by Emilia - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
Whenever I am asked whether I am a night or morning person I instantly respond with "Of course night!" Some might disagree and say that nights are for relaxing, time
to fall back and not worry about their obligations. On my end I oppose that thought because my experiences have proven that opinion wrong, but everybody is different. Some people prefer to be a night owl and I am under that category, some people are better at getting things done in the morning, it is all circumstantial, my circumstance happens to stem from my childhood.
When I was younger my father and I used to go for night drives and get fast food, since we live in Chicago it was even more exciting to go out during the night, simply because of the beautiful skyline we have. I remember making my eyes go cross eyed so that the street and building lights would glisten a little more. It kind of became a tradition to go during the night and get snacks or food, and it continued to intrigue me. I would love the exhilaration I felt when being out at night, I still do to this day, and because of these memories I believe it influenced me being a night person.
Ever since those nights I've always been about the night time thrill, and that also goes along with work. I’ve grown to love being productive at night, like doing homework, cleaning up my room, or getting things ready for the next day. I find the nighttime peaceful, silent, and lonely. A good lonely, I have time to myself, no one to bother me because everybody is asleep. There are nights when I put some music like jazz or oldies and completely zone off while doing my work, I enjoy it, even if I am doing work. Im 100% sure I am a night person because of my childhood memory of being out at night.
Whenever I am asked whether I am a night or morning person I instantly respond with "Of course night!" Overall my reason for being a night person truly does stem from my early years, I seem to be more alive and aware at night, that is probably why I am so productive in the night rather than the morning. I’d like to ask someone who is a morning person why they prefer the morning, but as I type this essay at 7:52 PM it is irrelevant to my productiveness as of now.
