My 10 year goal by Elizabeth - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
The question of where I think I will be in 10 years is a question that I have spent a lot of time thinking about over the last year and has led me to make a huge change in my life. For me, it has taken many years to completely understand where exactly I want to be in 10 years. I had originally thought it would be working at a large firm as a public relations director but over the last four years of my career I have evolved this thought and realized that in 10 years I hope to still be in public relations but not in the original role I had dreamed of but instead as a senior recruiter. There are many aspects of public relations that I love, but I have always had a passion for connecting people together. My favorite part of public relations has always been networking, meeting new people and making new connections this has always ignited my soul. Working as a recruiter for a top public relations firm would allow me to combine my love of public relations and connecting people.
My education will play a huge role in helping me achieve this goal. While I have four years of experience in public relations I have no experience in human resources or corporate business. This has led me to make a huge change and return to school to attain my B.S. in Business Administration from Oregon State University. This degree will give me skills in leadership, management, human resources, marketing, project management, legal and ethical business practices. All of these are very important skills to attain before I can become a successful recruiter.
10 years is a long way away and many things can happen, but I hope my passion, skills and education will help me achieve my goals.
