Band deserves more emphasis in school because it enhances time management, work ethic, discipline, and overall fitness. Students deal with daily homework which leads to anxiety, and stress which can easily overwhelm them. Being overwhelmed by such a task creates a lack of sleep and exhaustion, but with band students develop time management to be able to handle this workload while also growing their work ethic. Carrying an instrument for hours at a time is a huge demand but it improves balance, coordination, and endurance.

The strenuous and rigorous hours in the heat require discipline and fitness, two key tools in life that school keeps pushing with the schedule they hold students accountable for. Band takes care of both of these deeds through memorizing complex pieces of music and marching drill in the first semester of the school year, and extending musical skills in the second semester of the school year. The art of time management is always pushed by schools as of the utmost importance to make better use of their time. Band teaches this value by not only allowing students to practice their instrument but also reminding them of the school work that needs to be done in order to stay with the program.

Multiple benefits are acquired from the class of band, which is why it deserves more emphasis in school. The mindset that it takes to have the values discipline, strong work ethic, time management, and fitness is obtained through the band program. Band does more than just teach you values, it prepares you for the future. The life of a high school musician is hard but rewarding, which is why I think band class deserves more emphasis in school.
