Aspect of my education I'm most grateful. by Devon - November 2020 Scholarship Essay

I am most grateful for my ability to have a second chance to go back to college and get my degree. In 2010 I graduated from high school and went straight into college the following fall. I had every intention of going to college for four years, graduating, and finding a career all by the age of 21. Fast forward to now, I am 28 still without a college degree. Life is wild and always full of unexpected turns. Even with those twists and turns I was so determined to finish my degree and get the career that I wanted all those years ago.
Upon leaving school I racked up a pretty large bill that took me almost 6 years to pay off but I had made a promise to myself that I would go back to school no matter what it took. After paying off my balance with my University I was met with another obstacle, finding time to take classes. Trying to balance home life, work life, and then running to and from school just didn’t seem like something that I would be able to do.
Once COVID hit, it completely changed things for me. I realized that life is too short so I have to take advantage of time and opportunities. August of 2020 I enrolled back into school and it was the best choice that I could have made. Due to COVID, my class was scheduled as a 100% online class that worked perfectly for my life schedule! I took a leap of faith that turned out to be the best decision for me and I am so grateful that I did it. If I were to ask myself 7 years ago where I would be today, it would not have been where I am now but I am so happy that I am here; a 28 year college junior.
