Be The Greatest by Denise - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

“ If only I was like you when I was 16, and had the opportunities as a child to know that I could be a better person. If I knew about the many scholarships I could get I would have strived.”
This past 2015-2016 school year my, 7th period teacher, Ms. Brown said I was a outstanding student who needed to do better in my academics so I can strive harder for better results in life. Ms. Brown knew I wasn't the average kid who only wanted to graduate and go to prom and homecoming. She saw different in me, my 9th grade year, Ms. Brown was my AVID teacher, she taught me to prepare for the hardships of college and the different teaching styles and rubrics and the discipline. Ms. Brown knew I wasn't as ready yet to step out into the world. Everyday while she taught Ms. Brown would stare right into my eyes as if there was no one in the classroom but us. Ms. Brown always wanted me to be the greatest I could be and be above all. She taught me to focus harder and outside the box then just focusing a little. She insisted that I cut all the preposterous acts of a teenager and step up a bit closer to reality because it will come sooner than I thought. Ms. Brown taught me that having all the friends wouldn't make me a step closer to graduating to be the best midwife in World History, or even the best Director in the World. Every Friday when classwork was done , she showed me interviews from teens who struggled in high school and still succeed and she told me “ Don't be like them, be better , be greater.”
Ms.Brown introduced me into CollegeBoard and FAFSA , and scholarship finders. Coming from a a household with my father having no clue of these things were wasn't easy but once I knew, there was a open door for me now. Even on her bad days she still tried to educate me on the opportunities I have opened up for me and my generation it self. Ms. Brown taught me to be better and greater than anyone else because it's only my lifestyle and my greatness that will pay off to me and for me. She taught me to strive harder than I usually did and than anyone else, she knew there was no giving up. Ms. Brown chose me out of everyone to educate and to inform on how much opportunities the world gives us to have, that most of this generation doesn't know or doesn't bother to know. I'm truly grateful for all of it.
